NIAB is a dynamic, research led and market driven plant bioscience organisation, with an emphasis on innovative applications for end-users in the agricultural, horticultural and food sectors.  With almost 90 years’ experience of technology evaluation and transfer, NIAB is spear-heading the advancement of plant genetic resources through research, technical services and training.

We are recruiting for a Communication Officer to work as part of the ‘Growing Kent & Medway’ team. In the role, you will support the delivery of the communications for Growing Kent & Medway (GKM); promoting our products, services and membership across a range of channels and events. The GKM innovation cluster is funded through the UKRI Strength in places fund ( This post is fixed-term for three years.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating content for our social media channels, updating our website, writing and publishing email newsletters, and helping to manage in-person and virtual events. The promotion of our membership services will provide innovative food and drink businesses in the region with the tools, knowledge and opportunities to drive sustainable growth.

You must have excellent written communication skills, demonstrated in digital and print media. A proven track-record of creating engaging content on social media is required. The successful applicant will be responsible for updating the website, so experience of CMS systems is desirable.

The post-holder is expected to work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners. A high-level of attention to detail and strong project management skills is essential.

Within the role, you will also be expected to support and deliver both in-person and virtual events, so a good understanding of webinar platforms is also important.

Supporting the Senior Communications Manager, you will execute communication campaigns to raise awareness of our events, membership offer, products and services.

You will hold a full driving license or have access to independent means of transport to undertake work at other sites which includes remote locations.

The salary for this role is £24,770 to £32,682 per annum.  This post is fixed term for 3 years.
